Smile makeover
A smile makeover is not one treatment. It is a plan that combines whatever is actually needed, whitening, veneers, crowns, alignment, gum contouring, in the right order, so the result works as a whole rather than as separate fixes that do not match each other. Sequence matters more than people expect. Alignment comes before veneers, because straightening teeth first means less tooth structure has to be removed to make them look straight. Whitening comes before any crown or veneer is made, because those are manufactured to match your teeth at the shade they are on the day of the impression, and they will not lighten later. Planning starts with what specifically bothers you about your smile, not with a catalogue of procedures, and any honest plan includes the option of doing less than the maximum.

When do you need this treatment?
- Several things bother you at once: colour, shape, gaps, alignment
- Old fillings or crowns no longer match the colour of your teeth
- You have an event coming up and want a realistic timeline
- Previous cosmetic work has worn, chipped or discoloured
What happens during your visit?
- 1A consultation about what specifically you want to change
- 2Examination and photographs, with the specialists involved brought in
- 3A staged plan with the order of treatment, the time each stage takes, and the cost
- 4Treatment in stages, with a review between each
What happens if you leave it untreated?
Nothing here is urgent, and that is worth saying plainly. A smile makeover is elective. The only thing that gets worse by waiting is any underlying decay or gum disease found during the assessment, which has to be treated before cosmetic work starts in any case.
What is recovery like?
Depends entirely on which treatments the plan includes, and the consultation gives you the timeline for yours. Whitening and bonding need no recovery. Veneers and crowns involve temporary restorations between visits. Orthodontic stages run over months rather than days.
General guidance only. Your own recovery depends on your case, and the dentist treating you will tell you what to expect.
Questions you might have
Smile Makeover
How long does a smile makeover take from start to finish?
Anything from a few weeks to over a year. Whitening and bonding alone can be done in a visit or two. If alignment is part of the plan, the orthodontic stage sets the timeline, and that is measured in months rather than weeks.
Will it look obviously artificial?
That is a planning decision, not an inevitable outcome. Shade and shape are chosen with you beforehand, and a natural result usually means matching the proportions of your own face rather than picking the whitest available shade. Say clearly at the consultation which you want.
Do I have to do the whole plan?
No. A staged plan exists so you can stop after any stage, spread the cost, or decline the parts you do not care about. You will be told which stages depend on earlier ones and which are genuinely optional.
